Toys and Extras for your cat or kitten
All cats love to play and it is important that you spend time playing with them so they keep their muscles exercised and conditioned, as well as keeping their brain alert and eyes bright. This is also the perfect way to strengthen the bond with your cat or kitten in the family.
Here are some tips on what to look for when choosing your kitty a new toy:
- As there are so many toys to choose from, it is worth buying a selection to see what your kitten or cat enjoys playing with best. Interactive cat toys get the paw of approval from all kitty cats; the shake and squeak is a basic cat toy; a toy mouse that squeaks attached to a piece of elastic and a wand will drive any kitten wild and give any owner joy at watching their kitten bounce around chasing the mouse
 Cat play is orientated around hunting, so balls to play with and stalk, clockwork mice or fabric mice with the irresistible catnip will all be favoured with your cat. Check that the toys are reasonably solid so no bits can fall off and be swallowed
- Fur mice seem to be a favourite amongst all kittens, especially the ones that are impregnated with cat nip and look out for the variety of sizes catering for kittens and adult cats
- To sharpen and control the length of your cat’s claws, a scratching post is recommended to avoid the furniture and soft furnishings becoming damaged. These are also fun for your cat as they come in all shapes and sizes – some with circular supports covered in sisal rope, carpet covered perches and houses and barrels
- Be sure to give the scratching post a spray with some liquid cat nip attracting your cat to the scratcher when you first get it home . Taller cat scratching poles are more suitable for people with more than one cat or cats that are permanently indoors
