Beds and Bedding

We all want the best for our dogs to keep them happy and contented and like us, they need maximum comfort when sleeping or resting.

With so many beds to choose from, we have listed some tips for what to look for when buying a new bed for your pooch. The main factors to consider are size and comfort so that your dog feels warm and cosy even when fully stretched out. And make sure your dog’s bed is in an accessible place and free from drafts.

  • Consider the size, health and needs of your dog to ensure maximum comfort. Ensure the bed is big enough for a fully grown dog when stretched out.
  • Old dogs or dogs that are ill or have arthritis would need special orthopedic beds, like the Kannex bed or Flea Free dog bed- waterproof and free from draught  and easy to keep clean for incontinent dogs Visit www.fleafree.com.au to view the range.
  • Heating pads are preferable for older or arthritic dogs especially in the winter as they help to reduce the discomfort of joint pain
  • How does your dog like to sleep?  Is a nest bed suitable or is a pillow required?
  • Big cushions can serve as pillows while dog mats are thinner than pillows and more suitable for summer beds or travelling mats. Rugs and cuddlers keep your dog comfortable and support a curling dog on all three sides.  Make a selection from the Snooza range which represents great quality and great value.  Visit www.snooza.com.au to view the complete range
  • Check the filling of the dog bed. Foam is most common but make sure if you have a dog that chews, that you do not use something with bean bag filling
  • Removable and washable bed covers are great especially for dogs that are not yet trained properly.  If the cover cannot be removed, make sure the bed is waterproof for easy cleaning
  • Match the dog bed to the hues of the home but if the dog has a separate doghouse or uses a crate as a bed, colours may not be so important after all
  • In the summer if you have a dog that feels the heat, look out for the canine cooler bed  - filled with water, it provides great support for older dogs and is beneficial to dogs with heavy double coats. These are great as they are very durable and easy to keep clean
  • If you are looking for a funky design be sure to check out the Rogz range of dog beds and your pooch might actually sleep in its own bed for once!  www.rogz.com
